What Has Changed in ISO 9001:2026?

ISO 9001:2026 is scheduled for publication on 16 September 2026, marking the next major edition of the world's most widely used Quality Management System (QMS) standard.

The new edition is Edition 6 and will replace ISO 9001:2015. ISO has confirmed that the revised standard has progressed through the approval process and is under publication.

For businesses in Dubai and across the UAE, the key question is not simply whether ISO 9001:2026 is different from ISO 9001:2015. The more important question is:

What has changed in ISO 9001:2026, and what should UAE businesses do about those changes?

ISO's official information indicates that the 2026 edition builds on the existing ISO 9001 framework rather than replacing it with an entirely new approach. The revision introduces targeted updates intended to improve clarity, usability and relevance, including clearer wording, a stronger focus on leadership and quality culture, greater clarity around risks and opportunities, a new Annex A, and closer alignment with other ISO management-system standards.

For companies in Dubai and the UAE that already have ISO 9001:2015 certification, the transition should therefore be approached as an opportunity to strengthen the existing QMS rather than simply rewrite documentation.
